Borescope Inspections
Advanced NDT Solutions provide a comprehensive Borescope Inspection Service. Borescope inspection is widely used in the Power Generation and Pharmaceutical Industry to visually inspect items of plant and machinery. In Pharmaceutical industry ASME BPE requires up to 100% borescope inspection of pipe work during construction. The Inspection Engineers at Advanced NDT Solutions have extensive experience carrying out borescope inspection for a number of leading mechanical engineering and pharmaceutical companies.
The Inspection Engineers at Advanced NDT Solutions have been carrying out borescope inspection since the 1980’s. Since then borescope inspection has become easier and recording of images is now the norm. The stringent requirements of ASME BPE stipulate up to 100% visual inspection and full traceability of all welds. The Inspection Engineers at Advanced NDT Solutions have carried out the borescope inspection on large pharmaceutical construction projects at home in Ireland and overseas. This has involved the inspection and providing the traceability on thousands of welds.
ANS’s capability and experience has developed over the years as the technology has improved. We have a wide range of borescope equipment that can be used to inspect a wide range of plant and equipment. If you have a specific inspection requirement call us to discuss what we can offer.
We can provide the answer to your inspection requirement.

Advanced NDT Solutions provide a comprehensive Remote Visual inspection service. Our certified team of Inspection Engineers can provide a range of remote visual inspections. Vessels and tanks can be inspected using cameras which eliminate the need for scaffold and confined space access to complete the inspection.
The pan and tilt camera featured below has an extendable arm which allows for access into vessels. The large lights give excellent illumination in dark spaces and the 10xoptical zoom makes it easier to focus on areas of interest.
The small pan and tilt camera detailed below is 45mm in diameter. This small and robust camera allows for access into boiler headers through the small inspection nozzles. Like all the cameras we use the camera can be linked into a recording device to record video and still images.
Advanced NDT Solutions provide remote visual or borescope inspection of small diameter pipework generally used in the pharmaceutical industry. We use highly portable battery power equipment and can inspect sizes as small as 15mm diameter.
For larger diameter pipelines we use the crawler inspection camera detailed below. This camera can inspect pipe diameters from 4” to 24”.
Our capability and experience has developed over the years as the technology has improved. We have a wide range of remote visual equipment that can be used to inspect a wide range of plant and equipment. If you have a specific inspection requirement call us to discuss what we can offer.

The non destructive testing technology Magnetic Particle Inspection or MT as it is generally referred to is a simple crack detection tool for ferrous materials. MPI is used mainly for detecting surface breaking flaws. Some techniques will detect large sub-surface flaws. There are a number of levels of sensitivity and means of inducing magnetic fields in materials. The technique is determined by specific application and configuration of part to be inspected. In order to perform this inspection technique, it is a requirement to remove all coatings and have surface clean of dirt, scale and grease.
MPI will detect flaws perpendicular to the magnetic field, for this reason it is necessary to magnetise the material in at least two directions.
During MPI the iron particles are in either dry or wet form. In wet form they are either oil or water based.
Dry Powder technique – Hi-Temperature and gross cracking – is not commonly used and is the least sensitive of the three NDT MPI techniques. Electromagnet or Permanent Magnets are used for this inspection technique.
Contrast Technique – Uses a background paint to enhance crack indications, medium sensitivity maybe used in direct light and is the most general technique employed. Widely used for the inspection of structural steel welds and in maintenance inspections of plant and equipment. Electromagnet or Permanent Magnets are used during this inspection technique.
Wet Fluorescent Magnetic Test (WFMT) – this technique requires the use of UV light in a darkened environment. This is the most sensitive MPI technique and used extensively in the Power Generation and Petrochemical Industry during maintenance inspections. Electromagnet or Portable AC/DC Coil units are used for this inspection technique.
All inspections are performed by experienced ANS certified personnel to ASNT or PCN. Specifications governing Magnetic Particle Inspection include ASME V and EN17638.

Advanced NDT Solutions personnel have extensive experience in DPI – Dye Penetrant Inspection – and LPI – Liquid Penetrant Inspection. ANS’s experienced non destructive testing inspection engineers are certified to ASME and EN codes.
DPI is a low cost inspection method used to locate surface breaking defects in non-porous materials. DPI is one of the oldest methods of non destructive testing. One of its earliest uses in the 19th Century was in the railway industry to inspect steel components. The method was known as the “Oil and Whiting” method. The components were soaked in oil, cleaned and then a chalk and alcohol developer applied.
Penetrant is applied to the surface of the component, this penetrant is drawn into surface breaking discontinuities. After cleaning the component of excess penetrant a developer is applied which draws the dye out of the discontinuities and so they become visible.
There are several DPI techniques employed by Advanced NDT Solutions. The least sensitive technique but the most versatile and easiest to use is visible penetrant. For greater sensitivity fluorescent DPI is used. This requires a darkened area and the use of a UV light source.
When selecting the technique consideration needs to be given to several factors. The type of discontinuity sought, the expected size of the discontinuity and the surface finish on the material.
Care and consideration must also be given to the compatibility of the chemicals used for the inspection and the material being inspected so that permanent staining or degradation of the material does not occur.

Advanced NDT Solutions certified Non Destructive Testing Inspection Engineers provide an extensive industrial radiography service. Radiography is a versatile NDT inspection technique providing a permanent record of findings.
Advanced NDT Solutions are licenced by the RPII to provide an industrial radiography service country wide.
We use both X and gamma radiography to provide a wide range of sensitivities depending on the material thickness and the type of defects to be located.
The x ray energies we use are from 50kV to 350kV and the gamma sources are Iridium 192 and Selenium 75.
Advanced NDT Solutions has an in house radiography service and we also provide an ‘on site’ service using our portable equipment.
Selenium Se75 is a particularly versatile source for radiography, it is very portable and with the use of fine grain film can achieve sensitivities approaching that of x ray. It can also be used in confined spaces as it is easier to collimate to reduce the controlled area.
ANS has a wide range of experience of providing radiography on Power Stations, Pharmaceutical Plant and in the Oil and Gas Industry.
At Advanced NDT Services our Inspection Engineers have extensive experience in providing the Answer to your radiography requirements.
