TOFD is an extremely accurate ultrasonic tool for measuring the vertical extent of a defect. TOFD helps verify real indications from geometric signals and is also more sensitive to volumetric flaws than traditional ultrasonics or Phased Array. TOFD is best used with another ultrasonic technique such as a Phased Array.
