Sonemat Ltd. exists to provide ultrasonic testing equipment and measurement solutions to industry and research organisations.
Formed in 2005 as a spin-out from the University of Warwick, Sonemat specialises in a number of ultrasonic NDT methods with particular expertise in non-contact ultrasonics, including EMATs and laser based ultrasound. Sonemat has taken some of the novel laboratory based developments from leading research and has packaged them in a format suitable for industrial use.
At Sonemat, we provide economical, bespoke data acquisition and signal processing systems, with the flexibility to rapidly respond to changing customer requirements.

The EMAT Adaptor GS2020 provides NDT inspection with the advantages of non-contact EMAT transducers for pulse-echo flaw detection and thickness gauging, without the large capital outlay of replacing existing piezoelectric based flaw inspection systems and thickness/corrosion monitors.
The video gives a demonstration of our high temperature EMAT and standard EMAT working with our GS2020 EMAT adapter along with MITECH's ultrasonic flaw detector.
The EMAT Adaptor GS2020 provides:
The GS2020 is designed to work with modern NDT inspection systems with a suitable EMAT (provided as part of the package). It has sufficient signal strength and resolving power to operate on:
In certain circumstances, measurement of austenitic stainless steel is possible as shown in the figures below:

Sonemat's GS2020 EMAT adapters are sold with a standard bulk shear wave EMAT ( HWS2225-GC) for £2700.

Sonemat's High Power Pulser HPP2000 generates high power broadband pulses (~800V spike, subject to load) suitable for driving EMATs capable of generating guided waves such as:
The types of guided wave modes that the HPP2000 is able to generate can be useful for inspecting difficult-to-access areas e.g.:
The HPP2000 features variable repetition rate, and internal or external triggering, which makes the HPP2000 a simple and robust solution to a wide range of EMAT inspection challenges.
Please note: The HPP2000 is designed for pulse generation only, and does not contain a pre-amplifier. See our complementary product the Standalone Amplifier - SAA1000 if you with to develop a pitch-catch inspection system.

Sonemat's Standalone Amplifier SAA1000 is designed to provide ultrasound signal amplification for detection of various wave modes using EMATs, such as:
Sonemat's SAA1000 features 2 channels with variable gain of up to 80 dB. Multiple SAA 1000 units can be deployed where arrays of detection EMATs are required. The unit is mains powered and its analogue nature means it is compatible with any signal display or digitization device.
Although the SAA1000's primary function is as a complimentary product to Sonemat's High Power Pulser HPP2000, it is a useful general purpose development tool that no ultrasonics laboratory should be without.

Sonemat offers a fully integrated, automatic ultrasonic crystallographic texture measurement system, the TE100, for use on metal sheets.
Determination of texture can be performed by X-ray pole figure analysis, and now is increasingly achieved with electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD). However, these processes typically take several hours, and involve the removal of sample sections of the metal.
Sonemat's compact TE100 system allows rapid, non-contact, non-destructive measurement of the key orientation distribution coefficients (ODCs) that describe the crystallographic texture of metal sheets. Using ultrasound Lamb waves generated/detected by EMATs, we can measure the anisotropy of a sheet of metal in less than half a minute at maximum speed.
The images below show the TE100 system laptop, control box and EMAT scanning head, along with screenshots of the software interface showing data acquisition and analysis.

TE100 Specifications:

Designed and built in response to customer demand, Sonemat's Pulser-Receiver Piezoelectric PRP series is a low cost entry level pulse-echo system. The PRP is designed for use with a wide variety of piezoelectric transducers operating in a broadband mode for probes designed to operate between 500 kHz to 10 MHz.
It is supplied as mains powered as standard, but a battery operated version is available at a slightly higher cost if required. This unit is ideal for training or teaching purposes for basic ultrasonic measurements, being easy to set up and use and it is also readily interfaced with either an oscilloscope or another data capture device.
